Green Energy Jobs

What types of jobs are available in renewable energy?

First have a look at the general employment opportunities of the four main types of renewable energy sources. Further down are sources for job listings in renewable energy fields.

- Solar Power
Solar power is growing at an annual rate of 12% (according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration), even if its total percentage of energy supply is now only 1% of total consumption. Room for more!

- Wind Power
Involves analysis, manufacturing, installation and maintenance. It offers opportunities to many different backgrounds and skill levels. It currently supplies 11% of U.S. renewable energy.

- Geothermal Power
According to the Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) "in 2011, the geothermal industry is producing clean power in nine states and developing projects across 15 states... with the total number of geothermal projects... increasing 12%." It's even reported in Fox Newds.

- Hydroelectric Power
Many countries get major portions of their electricity needs from hydroelectric power. It supplies 98.25% of Norway's electric power needs and 44% of Sweden's. In the U.S. its 5.74%. Room for growth.

- Retrofitting Buildings
The trend to retrofit buildings for renewable energy is growing. The U.S. Green Building Council projected the creation of over 200,000 jobs in this area between 2009 and 2013.

- Auto Industry
Of course the auto industry is lagging behind in replacing fossil fuels. But Obama's plan to have one million plug-in electric vehicles on the road by 2015 will create jobs in greener cars.
