Amazon Signs PPA with Iberdrola for East Anglia THREE
Iberdrola and Amazon have signed an energy PPA for 159 MW from the forthcoming East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm in the UK.
The 1.4 GW project, located 69 km off the coast of Suffolk, is set to be powered by 95 Siemens Gamesa 14.7 MW turbines.
“Companies like Amazon are leading the corporate drive to advance the renewable energy industry, and guarantee energy security, sustainability, price stability and competitiveness,” says Iberdrola’s Sergio Hernández de Deza.
“Today, two global leaders join forces in an agreement that will mean more energy independence, more local jobs and lower emissions on both sides of the Atlantic. We are excited to partner with Amazon in the field of generative AI and big data, allowing our business to innovate and scale at speed.”
The project is expected to be operational by 2026.

Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind Submits Consent Application for Farm
Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind, a joint venture by Corio Generation, TotalEnergies and Gulf Energy Developments, has submitted a Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Planning Inspectorate of England for a 1.5 GW wind farm to be built 33 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.
The application for consent, to be made from the projects awarded rights by The Crown Estate under leasing Round 4 last January last year, includes requests for an offshore wind farm comprising up to 100 turbines, underground cables to run from the landfall site close to Anderby Marsh and a new onshore substation at Surfleet Marsh. The project plans to connect into existing overhead lines in the Weston Marsh area.
The application was submitted on March 14. The Planning Inspectorate will perform an initial assessment and then decide if it will proceed within a month from the submission date.
“Today marks an important moment in the development of Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind farm, and is testament to the impressive work done to date by the project team and the extensive consultation they have undertaken with local communities,” says Corio Generation’s Mark Giulianotti.
“Outer Dowsing is anticipated to generate enough energy to meet the electricity needs of 1.6 million homes – we are proud to be part of this important development in the southern North Sea, alongside our partners TotalEnergies and Gulf Energy Developments, and playing our part in the UK’s transition to clean, renewable and reliable energy.”

Interior Department Proposes Second Gulf of Mexico Offshore Sale
The Department of the Interior has proposed a second offshore wind energy auction in the Gulf of Mexico, with the possible lease site including four areas offshore Louisiana and Texas, totaling 410,060 acres.
With the proposed sale, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is seeking feedback on various aspects of the proposed lease areas, including size, orientation and location of the lease areas. BOEM is also seeking comment on potential lease revisions to include the production of hydrogen or other energy products using wind turbine generators on the lease.
Proposed bidding credits include funding for fisheries compensatory mitigation and workforce development. The bureau is proposing to conduct simultaneous auctions for each of the four lease areas using multiple-factor bidding.
The Proposed Sale Notice 60-day public comment period ends on May 20.
